This is the finished scratchboard illustration. When this illustration is reduced and printed on the wine label it will have the look of a steel-plate engraving. In the early 20th century the French used steel-plate engraving to represent "classified growth" and the engraving look still implies chateau status today. |
I was working on another wine label (Belles Eaux) for Claude at the same time that I was working on this illustration for Clos des Jacobins. I was almost finished with the Jacobins illustration when I received an email from Claude:
Within a couple hours after receiving Claude's email, I completed the drawing, scanned it and emailed a low resolution copy to Claude for his approval. He replied quickly:
Upon receiving this approval, I sent the high resolution file to Claude. The digital file I provide for quality printing is a scan of the original hand-drawn scratchboard illustration at its original size at 1200 ppi (pixels per inch) in 1-bit and saved in TIF format. See the printed label at the last step, step 5.
