Corrections on Jack Portriat
After sending a low resolution copy of the finished portrait illustration, the client marked it up for revisions. The client felt that the bags under the eyes were too puffy, which made Jack look tired. I used Photoshop with the Pencil Tool to make the revisions on the digital file.

The portrait and ribbon border were rendered as two separate illustrations because the client wanted the option of using the portrait without the border for other Jack Daniel's projects, in perpetuity.

After the illustrations were finished, they were scanned at high resolution. Low resolution copies were then made from the high res files and sent by email to the client for approval. The client reviewed the illustrations and required only one small revision. The client felt that the bags under Jack's eyes were too pronounced, which made him look tired.

That revision was made to the portrait on the high-resolution digital file with the aid of Photoshop, using a Wacom Pen Tablet and Photoshop's Pencil Tool. A low resolution copy of the revised illustration was then resubmitted to the client. Lee reviewed the changes and emailed me back:

Thank you, Mike.

The changes look good.

Next steps:
1. Jack without hat for Monday
2. Vertical ribbon for Monday
3. Wednesday – horizontal ribbon

Thanks,
Lee

I then emailed the high-resolution files of the portrait, ribbons, and filigrees to the production department at Arnold Worldwide.

Note: The scratchboard illustrations were scanned at 100 percent of original size at 1200 ppi in 1-bit and saved in TIF format. I chose "IBM PC" for the Pixel Order when saving the TIF file so the file could be opened with both PC and Mac.

Proceed to step 5.
