My Dad's father Fritz Auston Halbert — Fritz was born 31 August 1893, at Patsy, Missouri. He died 13 September 1977 at Potosi, Missouri (Washington county), and is buried at Palmer, Missouri.
Fritz had no formal education and could neither read nor write. He was a farmer by occupation and the family lived off the crops and live stock he raised (with a lot of help from his sons). My dad tells me that Fritz was a "rounder when he was young", getting his teeth knocked out when a guy punched him with brass knuckles and later getting shot in the shoulder while at a dance – the bullet was still in his shoulder when he died. The doctors found the bullet when Fritz was in the hospital for the last time. My dad's sisters were surprised by the presents of the slug, but my dad was not because he had been told the story years before.
Fritz married Mabel Hutchings 29 February 1920.
