Susie Anderson-Jenkins
My mom's mother Susie (Jenkins) Anderson. She was the ninth of eleven children born to George and Mandy Jenkins. When she was a child of about nine, she injured her hip while swinging on a rope swing. Back then, kids would tie a rope onto a limb of a tree and swing around the tree. Making a wide swing, she slammed into the tree trunk and injured her hip. She wasn't taken to see a doctor, so no one was aware of how serious the injury was. Her hip had been permanently damaged, which caused one leg to stop growing. When she was fully grown she had one leg quite a bit sorter than the other. She became a master at striking poses that would hide her physical defect when she was having her picture taken.
