My mother Imagene Joyce Jinkerson at about twelve years old. She went to school at the Sitton School, which was a one-room school where grades 1 through 8 were taught. She finished grade school but not high school. There was neither a high school nearby nor a school bus system, so just getting to the school was a major obstacle; moreover, in those days not much importance was put on young women from rural farming areas to get an education.
