Noel Halbert

My dad, Noel Francis Halbert, while in the army during WWII — This photo was taken while he was stationed in Germany. Dad left home when he was 16 and went into the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) Camps. Dad was under age, so he told them he was 18 so he could get in. The CCCs was a great opportunity for boys of rural Missouri during the Great Depression period. The CCC boys earned $25 per month with $20 of that being sent back home to help their family. They also learned discipline, work skills and responsibility.

Dad went into the army when he was 20 and stayed in until the war was over (about two and a half years). After getting out of the army he meet my mom and they got married on 15 April 1947, after courting for about a year and a half. More photos of Noel Halbert.
