Received a layout from the art department at King's Food store. They needed 4-color art for a 10.5"x20" in store banner that would promote Esse Panis, a specialty bread company. I will illustrate everything except the type. They have to use the art for another print piece with a different proportion, so the panel in the center is illustrated separately so it can be positioned as needed on the second piece.

After receiving the layout, I called the art director to discuss the illustration. He wanted a border with small, food related icons in the corners, and strands of wheat inside the border. The sky will be a bright, golden sunrise that will cast light on the bread in the foreground. Since the bread has a distinctive look and is the most important part of the art, they send me several pieces of the bread, to photograph for reference. He also wanted me to complete the illustration behind the center panel. Although the art will be used for another print piece with a different proportion, he told me to do the art for the 10.5"x20" piece and they will adjust it for the other piece.

I decided to do the illustration in four pieces and put them together in PhotoShop. The border, sky, bread and landscape, will be separate pieces of line art.

Follow the steps to see how this project was done.
