The pencil is transferred to a piece of scratchboard and I'm ready to start inking. Keep reference material close to the drawing so it can be referred to at a glance. For me, drawing is not a one hand operation, I always use my free hand to steady my drawing hand. The graphite that was transferred to the scratchboard will be erased with a kneaded or gum eraser, after the outlines and dark areas are inked in.
