After the rough pencil is approved, a detailed
pencil (left) is drawn. There were only minor changes made from the rough
for this figure, however, the other figures required many changes; in
fact, the toughest part of this project was getting the pencils approved
for historical accuracy.
After this detailed pencil is approved, it is transferred to a piece of
Essdee scratchboard.
Tip:
Essdee is the best scratchboard available, but Clayboard comes in a close
second. You can buy both boards at dickblick.com.

website. They also have all the tools necessary for working with scratchboard.
