A copy of the layout was saved, using the same dimensions but at a lower resolution, to be used as a template in Illustrator. Illustrator does a better job of drawing mechanical shapes than Photoshop, but I mainly took advantage of Illustrator's blending option to get some of geometric patterns.

The illustrator file was saved as an Illustrator file (.ai) then Placed in the original Photoshop grayscale file, at 600ppi, without anti-alias, and in grayscale mode.
