Review:
1. Scan the layout at 125%, 600ppi, in Grayscale.
2. Open this scan in Photoshop and use it as a guide for the finished
art.
3. Scan the reference print of the child in RGB at 600ppi and a dimension
that will fit the layout.
4. Adjust the reference photo with the Channel Mixer to get good graytones,
then convert it to Grayscale mode.
5. Place the reference photo on a layer above the layout and use Free
Transform to scale, rotate, and position the photo.
6. Using selections made from the layout, make the reference fit the layout.
7. Enhance the reference photo with the Dodge and Burn tools and the Airbrush
tool.
8. Save a low resolution copy of the layout and use it as a template in
Illustrator to draw specific parts of the design.
9. Place the Illustrator art in the original photoshop file.
10. Create and select areas of gray shading, open it in a new file, convert
it to Bitmap mode using a Haftone Pattern, convert it back to Grayscale
mode, delete all the white pixels, drag it back into the original file,
and move it into position.
11. Continue step 10 until the entire image is converted to line.
12. When the image is considered finished, save a copy of it with all
it's layers and channels in a safe place, so changes can be made to it
later if needed.
13. Now for the copy that will be sent to the client, convert it to Bitmap
made usig the 50% Threshold method.
14. Save it in the format that the client wants. In the case, TIFF.
That's all I have to say...'bout that.
